Joeshon James has taken a hard road.
James makes his ProBox TV debut against Vaughn Alexander on February 16, in Plant City, Florida, in an eight-round middleweight bout.
James spoke to ProBox TV while preparing for his upcoming fight against the brother of former world champion Devon Alexander.
“This is a big opportunity in my career,” said James. “This is somebody to push me, but it definitely shouldn't be going the full eight rounds with this guy. It might be the last fight of his career.
“I have taken a crazy path to where I am in my career because I believe in myself. I truly feel like no one can beat me. Not many fighters take the type of fights I have taken.”
The 25-year-old fighter from Sacramento, California holds a record of 8-0-2, with five knockouts.
James’s career reads like a film script. Since September 2022, James hasn’t taken an easy fight. He stopped Thompson Boxing’s Richard Brewart Jr. in Brewart’s hometown. He followed that up with a B-side fight against Javier Martinez on a Top Rank card and the outcome was a draw.
James was also invited to Canelo Alvarez’s California training camp for his pay-per-view fight against Jermell Charlo. Wanting his training to not be lost, James took a fight against Abilkhan Amankul as the first bout of the evening of Canelo vs. Charlo. It was untelevised and changed from a six to four-round fight the day of the event.
James boxed the decorated Eastern European amateur to a draw, although most in the building felt he won.
Less than one month after the frustration of Amankul's fight, James fought undefeated David Stevens. James had moved up to the super-middleweight division and the bout was the DAZN opener on a Golden Boy Promotions card, and he stopped Stevens in one round.
"Whenever you see 'Shontime' you expect to see fireworks and a spectacular knockout," James continued.
"This is a big opportunity to get my fanbase started in Florida, and I am just thankful for the whole event. I am ready to show why I am the future of boxing. I am coming to announce a new contender in the middleweight division."
His coach, Dre Martinez added: “He works so hard, it is what makes him different. With a name like Joeshon James, you know he is destined for greatness.”
